The Spiritual Variant of the Portuguese Way leaves Pontevedra towards Padrón via Armenteira, Combarro and Vilanova de Arousa, with a boat crossing along the estuary that recreates the maritime traslatio of Santiago's body.

It calls for a little planning (boat timetables), but rewards you with the Cistercian monastery of Armenteira, the beautiful Ruta da Pedra e da Auga and a unique experience where sea and spirit meet.

Who it's for

Vilanova de Arousa → Padrón (by boat)

The traslatio by sea: you sail across the Arousa estuary and up the river Ulla, re-enacting the arrival of the Apostle's body. It is the only maritime-fluvial Way of the Cross in the world, marked by 17 stone crosses; it passes before Catoira and the Torres do Oeste before landing at Pontecesures and Padrón (Iria Flavia), where it joins the Portuguese Way towards Santiago.
