How much does it cost to walk the Camino de Santiago?

Your budget depends above all on where you sleep and how many days you walk. Here is the daily spend by type of accommodation and the estimated cost of each route, so you can do your own maths.

Frequently asked questions about the budget

How much does the Camino de Santiago from Sarria cost?
The final 100 km from Sarria (about 5 stages) come to around 120–230 € if you stay in albergues; more in a guesthouse or hotel. It does not include getting to Sarria.
How much money do you need per day?
Staying in albergues, around 25–45 € a day covers bed, food and extras. In a guesthouse or hotel, count on quite a bit more.
Is it cheaper in municipal albergues?
Yes. Municipal and donation-based albergues are the cheapest (a bed for around 8–12 €), but they cannot be booked: they work on a first-come, first-served basis.
What costs are often forgotten?
Getting to the start and back from Santiago, the credential, the odd night in a hotel to rest, laundry and any gear you buy along the way.
