The Inland Portuguese Way to Santiago links Viseu with Chaves and the border at Verín, joining the Sanabrés along its Galician stretch. Those who walk it call it the most beautiful, intimate and spiritual of all the Portuguese routes.
With pilgrim hospices documented since around 1160 (founded by Queen Mafalda), it crosses terraced vineyards and villages that remain almost untouched, with far less tourist infrastructure than the Central Way.
Who it's for
For the seasoned pilgrim in search of rural authenticity.
