The Camino Olvidado links Bilbao with Villafranca del Bierzo through the mountains, avoiding the meseta. It is one of the oldest Jacobean routes, used from the 9th to the 13th century to sidestep the Muslim raids from the south.

It fell out of use with the Reconquista and was left literally forgotten until its revival in the 21st century (officially recognised by Castile and León in 2020). The mountains of Palencia and León, empty villages and silence.
